SWG-2  The S-Type

The StoryWood SWG-2 takes visual cues from the classic S-style bodies and blends them in a way that is classic with a modern flair. We’d like to think if Leo and Wayne put their heads together, they’d arrive here. Available as either a hardtail or trem, and available with many different pickup configurations, this model can become whatever you want it to be. A twang machine, a shred monster or anything in between. Made entirely of reclaimed and/or salvaged wood.

This model can accommodate any pickup configuration - SSS, HSS, HSH, HH, H, HS, 2 or 3 P90s, T, firebird - whatever tones you’re after.

SWG-2 Standard Specs:

  • Body - Reclaimed heart pine or similar reclaimed wood body with easy-access neck heel

  • Neck - Reclaimed maple with either reclaimed maple or reclaimed tropical wood fingerboard, 22 frets (Jescar), 12" radius, 25.5" scale, 1 11/16" nut width, vintage C shape (slightly fuller)

  • Bridge - Hipshot 6-saddle Contour hardtail or Hipshot Contour tremolo bridge

  • Pickups - Your choice of configurations using strat, tele, P90, mini- and full-size humbuckers

  • Tuning Machines - Hipshot open gear

  • Controls - Pickup selector (blade or toggle), Volume/Tone with electrosocket output jack

Options & Upgrades:

Neck radius - While 12" is standard, we also offer a vintage 7.25" radius, modern 9.5" radius, or a 10 to 16" compound radius.

Trem or Hardtail bridge - We're happy to make yours a hardtail or trem. Standard trem is the Hipshot Contour bridge, or a Floyd Rose Non-Fine Tuner bridge or Floyd Rose Original if dive-bombing all night is your thing.

Book-matched figured-wood top – We have access to a variety of reclaimed and salvaged species of tonewoods that make incredible book-matched tops, including redwood, mahogany, walnut, pistachio, and port orford cedar. Typically, on contoured bodies, we will do them as a “bent top,” which allows the top to follow the curve of the forearm cutaway. Depending on the specific wood set, we will at times try to eliminate a possible point of stress by gluing the top flat to the core body, and the arm contour works through the joining point, exposing the core wood to the front.

Bound fingerboard – Fingerboards can be bound with a choice of traditional binding or contrasting reclaimed wood.

Figured fingerboard - based on availability/stock, we do come across reclaimed wood with beautiful flame, curl and birdseye. The birdseye maple fingerboard above was originally a piece of factory flooring at the Harriet & Henderson Yarn factory in Henderson, NC!

Graphtech Ghost piezo system – For acoustic tones, we use Graphtech piezo saddles and the Ghost pre-amp system

Advanced Wiring Options - Choose from our Treble Cut/Bass Cut circuit, out-of-phase, series-parallel, and more to extend the tonal spectrum of your guitar

Have it your way

Our models are designed specifically to work well with whatever pickup configuration you crave.

In this example, we paired a warm, vintage PAF-style humbucker in the neck with a blade tele bridge pickup, and wired in an out-of-phase circuit on a push-pull volume pot.

Outlandos, indeed.

easy-access neck heel

Your guitar comes with our special ergonomic neck heel that provides much easier access to high frets by getting some wood out of your way.

bound fingerboards

For a visual step up, consider a bound fingerboard. This can be done in traditional binding or using contrasting reclaimed wood.

Pictured here, this neck is a mixture of water-recovered Panamanian Rock Walnut for the fingerboard, reclaimed factory maple for the core neck, and figured factory maple binding.
