René Flores aka The Groovin’ Cuban / aka Secret Weapon has been laying down bass lines of all styles for well over 30 years.

Born and raised in Miami, FL and after attending Univ of Miami he moved to Hollywood, CA to attend and teach at the famed BIT at the Musician’s Institute. During his five years in Los Angeles he recorded on dozens of TV and movie soundtracks (Star Trek Generations, Simpson’s Halloween Special, Ron Reagan Show, Baywatch, Local News) as a member of the AFM. Notable performances and recordings while in LA are with/on Ice Cube “The Predator” (Priority/EMI Records, Night Stawka Productionz, MC Ren “Shock of the Hour”(Ruthless/Relativity), Don Jagwarr (Capitol/EMI), Thom Teresi & The Earthtones, Tommy Roe, Geoffrey Moore (son of 007 Roger Moore), Ela (Scotti Bros Records), World Famous Drifters, Zola Taylor and The Platters, J.J. Jackson, Yo Yo, Hank Ballard & The Midnighters, Venetian Blindz, among many others. 

In South Florida he has performed and/or recorded with the Florida Philharmonic, performed with Itzhak Perlman, such Latin favorites as Luis Fonsi, Latin rockers NADA?, Cuban legend Willy Chirino, songstress duo Angie & Olgui, Miami’s Tony Randal Big Band, Ed Calle (Sony Music), Iko Iko, Miami rappers 5th Gear (Canes Records), among many others. A true sideman Rene is always busy with a project and being sought after for his solid bass lines and creative ear.

Rene is also a member of the American Federation of Musicians, is a Voting member of the Grammy’s with both NARAS and LARAS and is on the Florida Board of Governors for NARAS. He has consistently maintained his performance schedules while also working in the music business for world famous record stores, labels and publishers throughout his career; truly lending his expert insight into the consumer side of the music business as well.
